Claire took a breath and let it out as a sigh, closing her eyes. He had a point. The whole world would know he was dead, if whenever happened. But that wasn’t what she’d asked. He was dodging the question. Which only confirmed that he probably wasn’t okay.
“I’m just gonna say I’m on my period and leave it at that.” Which was extremely unlikely considering she had the contraceptive bar. But he didn’t know that. She bent down to pick up her bag, adjusting the strap at the back of her shoe as she did so before standing up straight again as she moved to leave her office. But she stopped at the door, and suddenly came to a grand epiphany; here was a friend she hadn’t seen in months, someone she’d genuinely missed and she was being nothing short of a bitch.

Lucky for him he knew exactly where all the celebratory whiskey and champagne was stashed when clients would mail it to him expecting him to drink. Just looking at the black label made the hair on the back of his neck stand up in desperation, but he took a breath and turned his head back to the woman that clearly needed help. “You want a ride back, considering you can barely walk..?” He offered, his lips still thinly lined.
Claire followed him, “Oh no. It’ll be back to the New York Times. First he’s walking around in sweat pants, now he wants...
“I actually do have my own chef, but let’s just say as of late I’ve been living off take-out. So much for the health...
